Overview

Bug Sumo is a game about thinking one move ahead of your opponent to gain an edge and push them off the mushroom!

At the start of each match, one player is randomly given Lead.

Select a move from the cards at the bottom of the screen, hover for more information.

You flip coins based on your current Edge (min 1, max 4), and a move is successful if you get at least one head.

Moves are executed in speed order from lowest (0) to highest (7), with Lead breaking ties.

Different moves counter each other, so pay attention to your opponent's playstyle to beat them.

Push your opponent off the mushroom to win!

Press "P" or "Esc" to pause the game to adjust settings or return to the main menu (your progress will not be saved).

Missed the first few days of the jam due to food poisoning but this idea did literally come to me in a fever dream so maybe it all worked out.

FAQ

Q: What are the different game modes?
A: Tutorial mode lets you practice against an opponent who only Steps and Flees. Tournament mode lets you fight through a series of battles where you try to hold your title. Versus lets you play against a friend (local only).

Q: How does Versus mode work?
A: Versus mode relies on honesty currently. One player looks away while the other selects a move, and vice versa. It is also useful for testing how different moves counter each other.

Q: What is the fly called?
A: Their name is Tuto!
